DefCon: Campaign to Defend The Constitution. Because The Religious Right Is Wrong
During our stem cell campaign, DefCon America ran two full page ads in the New York Times in May and June. Click here to see the ad from May. Click here to see the ad from June.

We also released our first video on YouTube featuring DefCon advisory board member and former NARAL head Kate Michelman's incredible story and by doing all we could to empower the millions of Americans for whom we are fighting. Click here to view the video.

To be sure, the fight for health and hope is not over. In the coming months, this fight will move to the states, where citizens are tired of waiting for a misguided President to do the right thing and have taken the issue into their own hands. Stay tuned to the DefCon Blog for updates.

Sleep After the Rapture

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

We all know how exasperated the religious right has become in recent weeks. Tony Perkins has been celebrating the NJ ruling re-affirming what he has called a serious attack on his religious freedom — because he believes the decision can be exploited politically — and James Dobson has been using his daily radio show to […]

Jon Stewart Destroys Bill Bennet

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Jon Stewart is incredibly smart, quick witted, and powerful — especially when he is committed to the topic at hand.
Check out his –impressively civilized — discussion with Bill Bennett on gay marriage. It’s tough to be Bill.

OVER THE LINE

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Last week, the C-4 arm of Dobson’s Focus on the Family sent a very aggressive email to Maryland members regarding the state’s heated senate race. Rest assured the religious right, with their money and resources, are putting everything they release these days under the eyes of a team of expensive lawyers. However, while the text […]

Religious Right Does Halloween, Dawkins Visits Kansas

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Monday morning news round up….
Talk about scary. Ever wonder how the religious right celebrates Halloween? They never miss an opportunity to exploit fear.
Richard Dawkins was in Kansas this month, urging science teachers to keep up the good fight: “I.D. is granted immunity from the rigorous standards of science,” he said. Those gaps in theories are […]

Religious Right Now Cheer NJ Decision

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Religious right leaders are reportedly now celebrating the NJ decision, believing it will ignite their base. Um, so now they are admitting that their divisive agenda is political — they’re happy that what they have called the biggest threat to religious freedom in America today is being furthered because now they can cash in on […]

Religious Right On NJ Decision

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

The religious right is attempting to use yesterday’s decision by New Jersey’s Supreme Court to rally their (estranged?) supporters — ala 2004.
Tony Perkins: “Today’s decision should give momentum to the eight states with marriage protection amendments on the November ballot. It should be clear to every voter that these elections count!”
James Dobson: “We only hope […]

Using the Churches In Kansas

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington is stepping up the scrutiny on the use of churches for political organizing and — ultimately — electoral victories. A complaint filed this week targets Kansas, and a memo that was leaked urging staffers of a candidate for Attourney General of the state to use churches to […]

New Jersey Extends Rights to Gay & Lesbian Residents

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

The Supreme Court of New Jersey just ruled that “equal rights” actually means equal rights:
The State Supreme Court in New Jersey said today that under equal protection guarantees of the state constitution, same-sex couples “must be afforded on equal terms the same rights and benefits enjoyed by opposite-sex couples under the civil marriage statutes.”
But […]

NJ Gay Marriage Decision Comes Today

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

From the New York Times:
TRENTON, Oct. 24 — The New Jersey Supreme Court will release its long-awaited ruling on Wednesday on whether the state must allow gay couples the full legal right to marry, court officials said on Tuesday.
Massachusetts is the only state to recognize a constitutional right to gay marriage.
The case has drawn national […]

Chuck Norris: Mouthpiece for Religious Right

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Chuck Norris (yes, that Chuck Norris) has acquired a weekly column at WorldNetDaily — the conservative, religious right affiliated website.
Check out this tidbit from Chuck’s post this week, where he responds to “Alleged Chuck Norris Facts“:
Alleged Chuck Norris Fact: “There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to […]

Richard Dawkins on HuffPost

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

From a piece he has posted entitled Why There Almost Certainly Is No God:
America, founded in secularism as a beacon of eighteenth century enlightenment, is becoming the victim of religious politics, a circumstance that would have horrified the Founding Fathers. The political ascendancy today values embryonic cells over adult people. It obsesses about gay marriage, […]

Let’s hear it….

Mel White Chat Today

Friday, October 20th, 2006

Rev White’s new book, Religion Gone Bad, has some very interesting insights on the religious right leadership including two chapters on a secret 1994 meeting where the religious right focused on cementing their anti-homosexual campaign.
Hope you can join us today at 1 p.m. EDT. Leave questions for Rev. White below.

The Campaign to Defend the Constitution combats the growing influence of the religious right over American democracy, education, and scientific progress and leadership.
