DefCon: Campaign to Defend The Constitution. Because The Religious Right Is Wrong
During our stem cell campaign, DefCon America ran two full page ads in the New York Times in May and June. Click here to see the ad from May. Click here to see the ad from June.

We also released our first video on YouTube featuring DefCon advisory board member and former NARAL head Kate Michelman's incredible story and by doing all we could to empower the millions of Americans for whom we are fighting. Click here to view the video.

To be sure, the fight for health and hope is not over. In the coming months, this fight will move to the states, where citizens are tired of waiting for a misguided President to do the right thing and have taken the issue into their own hands. Stay tuned to the DefCon Blog for updates.

More End Times Coverage

Monday, July 31st, 2006

On CNN tonight, Paula Zahn Now will focus on the recent upsurge of End Times talk in light of the crises in the Mideast.
All this coverage is missing an important angle; while they continue to pull talking points from disspensationalist theology, they fail to discuss that A) there is no reference to the rapture in […]

Religious Right’s Values Voter Agenda Backfiring

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

This morning NPR released a poll they had conducted which covered the 50 most competitive House races in the country. While the primary purpose was to gauge which party was in better standing for the upcoming November elections — Democrats are polling higher by an average of six percent — the poll also dug below […]

Pack Your Bags

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Recent events in the Mideast have the rapture crowd very excited.
On his website, Jerry Falwell recently proclaimed:
It is apparent, in light of the rebirth of the State of Israel, that the present day events in the Holy Land may very well serve as a prelude or forerunner to the future Battle of Armageddon […]

Defining The Religious Right

Monday, July 24th, 2006

New York Times religion columnist Peter Steinfels wrote a piece about DefCon’s stem cell campaign that ran in Saturday’s paper.
The advertisement identified the extremists as “the religious right,” which is also accused of “imposing its will on all Americans, through limits on a woman’s right to privacy, a steady assault on gay and lesbian rights” […]

Dobson Launches Anti-Gay Website

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

From the Rocky Mountain News:
James Dobson’s Colorado Springs-based ministry stands firmly against same-sex marriage, gay rights initiatives and, now, mooing puppies.
On Tuesday, Focus unveiled its new “straight” puppy Web site, www.no-moo-lies.com, featuring a basset hound named Sherman, who barks as biology intended. During a news conference, a Focus employee dressed in a dog suit, […]

You Know You’re Doing Something Right….

When both Catholic League President William Donahue and the National Review criticize your work.
Check out this quote from Spero News:
Donahue also noted that the Los Angeles Times “blasted the Republican Party for ‘allowing religious conservatives to stall medical progress for nearly five years.’” and the The Campaign to Defend the Constitution in a full-page […]

As most of you know by now, the override attempt of President Bush’s veto of H.R. 810 failed in the House of Representatives last night.
This failure came despite an incredible last ditch effort on your part. Let’s recap:

Between May and June 60,000 of you sent emails to Sen. Frist demanding he bring H.R. 810 to […]

Thank You DefCon & What’s Next

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

By Rep. Diana DeGette
Yesterday the U.S. Senate joined the House in voting to expand embryonic stem cell research. By passing the “Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act” (H.R. 810) this Congress has proved we are willing to set politics aside when it comes to expanding life saving research. This is a tremendous victory for the millions […]

President’s Veto Ceremony Scheduled for 2:15 Today

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

There is still time to take action.
Our call to pass this legislation is not about politics or any other silly pursuit; it’s about health and hope. Bush is poised to throw all of us who have family members suffering or who are suffering themselves to the curb.
It’s easy to distinguish those who know first hand […]

Ralph Reed Loses in GA

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Former Christian Coalition leader Ralph Reed, unable to overcome his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, conceded defeat Tuesday in Georgia’s Republican race for lieutenant governor.
It was a stunning turnaround for Reed, who was making his first bid for elective office after working for years as a behind-the-scenes campaign strategist and leading the Christian […]

Stem Cell Debate Opens

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Today, the Senate opens debate on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement act, which if passed will rescind Bush’s draconian 2001 ban on federal support for embryonic stem cell research. Despite the overwhelming public support for this research Bush has sided with the religious right, committing to veto this legislation. In response DefCon has launched an […]
