DefCon: Campaign to Defend The Constitution. Because The Religious Right Is Wrong
During our stem cell campaign, DefCon America ran two full page ads in the New York Times in May and June. Click here to see the ad from May. Click here to see the ad from June.

We also released our first video on YouTube featuring DefCon advisory board member and former NARAL head Kate Michelman's incredible story and by doing all we could to empower the millions of Americans for whom we are fighting. Click here to view the video.

To be sure, the fight for health and hope is not over. In the coming months, this fight will move to the states, where citizens are tired of waiting for a misguided President to do the right thing and have taken the issue into their own hands. Stay tuned to the DefCon Blog for updates.

See How They Run

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

In the wake of Tuesday’s Dover ruling, where Judge John E. Jones called intelligent design out for the creationism it so clearly is, a key member of the religious right cut ties with the organization responsible for the trial. Of course this member’s about face only came after the scathing decision and, coincidentally, less than […]

Public Eye

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

By Frederick Clarkson
When Roy Moore, the Chief Justice of the Alabama State Supreme Court, installed a two-and-one-half-ton granite monument to the Ten Commandments in the Alabama state courthouse in Montgomery in June of 2001, he knew it was a deeply symbolic act. He was saying that God’s laws are the foundation of the nation; and […]

Victory in Dover!

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

In a wonderful turn of events Judge John E. Jones has ruled against the teaching of intelligent design. According to Jones, intelligent design is not science and deserves no place in PA science classrooms (you don’t say).
From Judge Jones:
The proper application of both the endorsement and Lemon tests to the facts of this case makes […]

The Religious vs. The Right

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Not enough focus is paid to the inherent contradiction that exists between many central tenets of faiths like Christianity and the Republican agenda.
While this reality holds true on issues ranging from welfare to foreign policy, an article in today’s Washington Post highlights yet another discrepancy. An anti immigration bill, endorsed by the Bush administration and […]

Mr Jones

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

For six weeks in September and October, Judge John E. Jones presided over the Dover intelligent design trial. In preparation of his decision, which is expected this week, the New York Times published an interesting profile of the Pennsylvania judge.

Count Down To Dover

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

Well it’s finally here. Almost. The judge in the landmark Dover, PA intelligent design trial looks set to announce his verdict as early as next week, dictating whether students in that District will be taught science or religious ideology.
While much of the science vs. intelligent design debate has focused on Dover and Kansas, two other […]

CWFA’s Spokeswoma…er Man

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

The religious right’s fabricated “War on Christmas” took a turn from ridiculous to offensive this week. On Monday, Concerned Women for America (CWFA) spokesperson Robert Knight appeared on CNN and compared those who would replace “Merry Christmas” with “Happy Holidays” to the Nazis!
As highlighted by People For the American Way (PFAW), Knight said, “You […]

Ford & AFA

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

Under pressure from the ever regressive American Family Association, Ford motor company has pulled ads planned to run in gay publications. In typical fashion, AFA threatened a conservative Christian boycott of the company’s Ford and Land Rover products unless they dropped their “pro-gay agenda.”
In an attempt at damage control, Ford executives met this week […]

By all standards he is a leading member of the religious right. He […]

Mr. Donohue on CNN

Friday, December 9th, 2005

For those of you who missed Catholic League president Bill Donohue’s rant on CNN yesterday morning regarding the Happy Holiday vs. Merry Christmas debate, I’ve pasted it below.
If you haven’t experienced his dazzling logic…..
People send me St. Patrick’s Day cards who are Italian. I don’t get upset about that.
It’s worth enlightening yourself:

Joining me now is […]

Creationism vs. Intelligent Design

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

We at DefCon have spent an incredible amount of energy exposing intelligent design’s lack of scientific merit. We oppose the theory because it has not stood up to the rigorous standards of the field of science, and we oppose those who would use this theory to push religious ideology in our schools.
In short, intelligent […]

Another Point for Intelligent Design

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

Kansas University’s Paul Mirecki was fed up with the hype around intelligent design. So he decided to do something about it. In November Mirecki, the chair of the University’s religious studies department, announced that he would be offering a new course in the upcoming semester: “Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and other Religious […]

Something Fishy

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

Something fishy is definitely going on regarding Justice Sunday III. First they quietly changed the date from Dec 4, to Jan. 8. Second, despite massive promotion by the religious right for the first two events, there hasn’t been a peep from anyone regarding its most recent incarnation. All we know is the date, the place […]

The Campaign to Defend the Constitution combats the growing influence of the religious right over American democracy, education, and scientific progress and leadership.
